Stenhousemuir V Airdrie Match Report: League 1: Ochilview Result – 1 – 1.

Half Time: 0 – 1.

Stenny Scorers: Dickson (81):

Airdrie Scorers: Buchanan (5):

Referee – Mat Northcroft

Attendance – 419.

Airdrie had only won once in the last thirteen games prior to this match and had been victorious only twice in a poor league campaign to date, but they surprised Stenny by taking the lead in the fifth minute.

Caolan McAleer sent in a peach of a corner and Gregor Buchanan rose to power home a header from eight yards.

Jim Lister’s angled shot forced home minder Chris Smith to make a good save with his legs as Gary Bowman’s new side belied their basement league position, but as the half wore on John Gemmell and Bryan Hodge, twice, forced decent saves out of visiting keeper Daniel Rodgers.

The Warriors replaced Brown Ferguson and John Gemmell with Sean Dickson and Sean Higgins at the break, and it was this pair that carved out the leveller in the 81st minute. Higgins crossed from the right and after keeper Rodgers saved his first shot, Dickson followed up to nod the loose ball into the empty net.

This was far from a classic and in the end a point apiece was fair reward for both teams.

Arthur McTague.
