Match Report

The Warriors have trained hard for their opening Premier Sports Cup game.

Warriors, the long awaited return to competitive action ends on Tuesday night as we travel away to Greenock Morton for our first game in the Premier Sports Cup.

The Warriors have already showcased their strengths in their pre-season fixtures and will be on the prowl for another victory and three points to kick off their Cup campaign. Not only does a cup bring excitement and passion for the players, but it allows them to find their rhythm and kick on for the season ahead.

The Warriors aim for their first away victory over this Championship opposition in 21 years.

Morton and the mighty Stenny haven’t faced off on all that many occasions. The last time they played domestically was back in 2015 and the only occasion we have met in the cup was in 2018.

Morton lead the way with 10 wins out of a possible 13 and haven’t been defeated by us on their home turf since 2004. This was a massive victory for the Warriors as they led the way to a 1-4 win sending  Cappielow into silence- a result the Warriors would be  delighted to inflict on them again.

The Warriors are under no illusion that Tuesday night will be a tough fixture as we take on this Championship opposition. Morton finished sixth last season on 48 points, one of their better finishes over the years, however they finished on some turbulent results with three straight defeats before they capped off the campaign with two wins and a draw.

Morton struggled in this very cup last season only registering two wins against Brechin City and Alloa Athletic, results that saw them exit the cup in the group stage. Stenny also exited at the same stage but are aiming for a cup run this season.

Warriors, as always your support is vital and we hope to see as many of you as possible in Greenock on Tuesday night to support Gary and the boys in our opening game. Remember to stay up to date via all our social media channels.
