Match Report

Pre-season friendly
Skelmersdale United 0 Stenhousemuir 1 [McManus 83]
The following day [Saturday] the Warriors travelled south to play Skelmersdale United of the Unibond League First Division at ‘Stormy Corner’. A much changed side started the game in difficult conditions with strong blustery winds and with the grass a bit longer prevented a fluid passing game. In the early stages of the game side the home side had most of the play and George Donnelly fired just over with a first time shot. Stevie Hampshire had an effort saved by the keeper Ben Hinchcliffe for a corner in the 18th minute from which Scott Dalziel had an effort cleared off the line. Skelmersdale made five substitutions on the half hour and that seemed to interrupt Stenhousemuir more as the home side had their best spell of the game with Scott Bennett making a fine save. Robert Love almost scored with a chip past the keeper from a Andrew Brand pass but Phil Holland was able to intercept. Another 5 Skem subs as they rotated the squad and a silly altercation disrupted play on the hour mark and after that the game rarely got going again. Despite this however the Warriors scored the winner though Scott McManus in 83 minutes after excellent link up play between himself and Kevin Haynes saw the youngster shoot into an empty net from close range
