Motherwell come to town as the Warriors gear up for their first home fixture of the season!

On Saturday, our Premier Sports Cup action continues as we host Premiership side- Motherwell in our first home game of the season. We are aiming to put our best foot forward to bag our first three points in this competition.

The Warriors stepped out against Greenock Morton on Tuesday night, but despite their best efforts the scoreline wasn’t to be. However, with another fixture steaming around the corner, the Warriors are setting their sights on slaying a giant.

A few close shaves for Motherwell

Despite their Premiership stature, the Steelmen have left it late on two occasions in their cup games- riding out a draw against Clyde (before bagging the bonus point in a penalty shootout) and then relying on a last gasp winner against Peterhead. The Warriors can take faith from these results as they both prove the Motherwell backline is penetrable and a quick counter could catch them off guard.

One man who has been a constant for the Steelman despite their undesirable results, and whose speed, agility and precision could cause the Warriors problems, is Zimbabwe international, Maswanhise. The lighting quick winger, with some serious skill spared the Well’s blushes against Clyde as his brace shored up three points. The electric winger is certainly one to watch ahead of this fixture.

The last time the Well came to town

This fixture is a first in over four decades, with the last competitive meeting between these two sides coming in 1980. The mighty Stenny held out to a draw at Ochileview on this occasion and forced a replay in the Scottish Cup.

If we had to rewind it back to one of our four wins against Motherwell, this came at the fortress of Ochilview in the same season but a different competition. The League Cup witnessed some fine Warriors action as they dispatched Motherwell in a 2-0 victory -a feat Ochilview would gladly host again.

Though these teams are leagues apart, the mission for the Warriors remains the same: to register three points against quality opposition. The Warriors will come out fighting and aim to slay the Lanarkshire giants in order to register our first win of the tournament.

We know Ochilview will be bouncing on Saturday, and we need every Warrior there to support the team and help them over the line. Your support is always vital to the team, but none more so than on Saturday when we hope to see as many of you there as possible and in fine voice. Remember to stay up to date via all our social media channels.
