Match Report

Stenhousemuir’s League One campaign began with a narrow 2–1 defeat at home to Alloa Athletic, in a game where the Warriors started brightly but couldn’t capitalise on their early dominance.

The home side came flying out the blocks and were the better team for the opening 35 minutes, playing with high energy and purpose. Their early pressure paid off in the 15th minute when Dale Carrick slotted home to score on his debut. Chances continued to fall the Warriors’ way in the first half, and had they been more clinical in front of goal, the result could have been beyond doubt by the break. However, Alloa goalkeeper McFarlane produced a string of excellent saves to keep his side in the contest.

Alloa equalised just before half-time through Buchanan, his right foot shot hit the net assisted by Roberts. That goal shifted the momentum going into the second half.

After the break, Alloa showed greater composure and control. They took the lead in the 51st minute through Roberts, this time the finisher with a right footed strike from outside the box to the bottom left corner, assisted by Stefan Scougall. From that point, the Wasps looked the more assured side and managed the game well.
Statistically, the match was tight. Both teams had 6 shots on target, with Alloa edging the overall shot count (11 to 9) and possession (55% to 45%). While Stenhousemuir continued to push, they couldn’t find a second breakthrough, and the game slipped from their grasp.

Despite the result, there were positives to take for the Warriors. The return of Jamieson was a welcome sight, getting some valuable minutes under his belt. The team created several clear-cut chances and, on another day, and without McFarlane’s heroics in goal, the outcome could have been different.

Stenhousemuir will look to take the positives into next week and aim to convert strong spells into points as the season unfolds.

PREVIEW

The wait is finally over — league football is back, and it returns in the best possible way: a derby day at Ochilview!

Stenhousemuir kick off their 2025/26 League One campaign this Saturday with a high-stakes clash against local rivals Alloa Athletic, and the squad are ready to rise to the occasion.

After an encouraging end to the Premier Sports Cup, with a 1–0 win over Peterhead, the Warriors head into the opener with renewed confidence. Despite dealing with several injury setbacks, Gary Naysmith’s squad have shown real character and determination over the summer. Our recent signings have slotted in well, gaining valuable minutes and producing strong performances in matches against Motherwell, Clyde, and Peterhead.

Alloa, who enjoyed a strong run in the Premier Sports Cup, will be a tough opponent with a settled squad — but this is a derby. It’s about passion, belief, and making every moment count. With a fired-up Warriors side, a home crowd behind them, and the energy of derby day in the air, Gary Naysmith’s squad will be determined to lay down an early marker.

Let’s make Ochilview bounce this Saturday and give the team the backing they need to start the season strong. It’s derby day. It’s opening day.

We look forward to seeing as many Warriors as possible there on Saturday ahead of the new season!
