StenhousemuirMatch Report
Match Report by Scott Gallacher, Communications Officer & Reporter
Stenhousemuir drew 1-1 with Queen of the South at Palmerston Park in the William Hill League One, in what was the final away match in a run of three consecutive fixtures on the road.
The hosts took the lead midway through the first half when Jack Stott’s low-driven effort from inside the box beat Darren Jamieson from close range.
The Warriors, however, refused to be deterred, and Ross Taylor struck in the 93rd minute to secure a hard-earned point on the road.
Gary Naysmith made one change from last week’s match against Alloa, with Michael Anderson coming into the starting XI in place of Matty Aitken.
Queen of the South started brightly, testing Darren Jamieson early on through a series of set-pieces, but the experienced goalkeeper was alert to deny Reece Lyon at his near post.
Scott McGill and captain Gregor Buchanan stood strong at the back, dealing well with several dangerous deliveries into the area.
Queens pressure paid off as they took the lead midway through the first half when Jack Stott finished low from inside the area, beating Darren Jamieson from close range
After Jack Stott’s opener, Stenhousemuir began to settle and grow into the contest. Ross Taylor and Ross Meechan combined well down the right, while Kinlay Bilham provided attacking width on the opposite flank as the Warriors pushed for an equaliser.
A powerful free-kick from Taylor was only inches away from finding the top corner before half-time, but agonisingly stayed out as Stenny went into the break a goal down.
Half-Time: Queen of the South 1-0 Stenhousemuir
After the restart, Darren Jamieson was again called into action to keep Stenhousemuir in the game, producing a fine stop to deny Kai Kennedy.
Substitute Finlay Gray almost levelled midway through the second half when his thunderous strike cannoned off the outside of the post, a moment that underlined the Warriors’ growing control.
As the game entered stoppage time, Stenhousemuir threw everything forward. With all eleven players, including goalkeeper Darren Jamieson, inside the box for a late corner, the pressure finally told.
The initial delivery wasn’t cleared, and when the ball broke kindly to Ross Taylor, the forward kept his composure to drill a low finish into the bottom corner, sparking jubilant celebrations in front of the travelling support.
It was no less than Stenhousemuir deserved for their second-half performance and ensured the Warriors travelled back north with a well-earned point from a tough away venue.

MATCH PREVIEW
After a tough and competitive trip to Alloa last weekend, ending in stalemate, the warriors travel south to Palmerston Park.
Stenny sit atop of League One after an impressive start to the season, winning six, drawing three and losing two matches. The team will be keen to get back into winning ways as we travel to Dumfries this Saturday.
The team will face a formidable force at Palmerston as Queen of the South look to improve on their current league position and on our previous two trips to Palmerston we have failed to return with any points.
Despite drawing a blank on our last outing, Stenny have scored 8 goals in the last four matches, and we will be looking to add to that tally this coming weekend. The goals in this fixture have been quite one sided in recent head-to-head fixtures, with the Dumfries side having the most joy in front of goal, however top goal scorers, Euan O’Reilly (5), Matty Aitken (3) and Dale Carrick (3) will all be looking to add to their tally.
On our last visit to Palmerston, in April, 2025, we conceded two second half goals, in the 59th and 63rd minute (pen.), which led to the hosts winning the match.
The last time we clinched victory against “the Doonhamers” was at home in February this year with goals from Alston and O’Donnell. The visitors scored in the 91st minute however Stenny ran out winners on that occasion.
Just before Christmas we were on the end of a slim defeat down in Dumfries with O’Donnell on the scoresheet once again with a fine finish, however that game ended 2-1 to the home side.
We hope you can join us in making the journey to Dumfries this weekend and hope you bring your singing voices which were in full volume at Cove. Your support is invaluable to our efforts as we aim to remain top of the league.
