Match Report

Peterhead and Stenhousemuir shared the points as a 0-0 draw was played out at Balmoor Stadium.

The Warriors made the 160-mile trip up to a very windy Aberdeenshire to take on league leaders Peterhead were looking to add another 3 points after their 3-0 victory away at East Fife the week before. Stenhousemuir were hoping to build on their draw against Forfar at Ochilview.

The opening stages of the game were quiet, but the Warriors did have one chance when Brown played in Meechan, but his cross was caught well by Oluyemi in the Peterhead goal.

The effect of the wind was clear to see when Peterhead’s Oluyemi tried punt the ball forward, but he then had to catch his own ball.

Warriors, who had the wind behind them in the first half went on to dominate play and territory with Kirkpatrick, Yates and Anderson all having chances to put Stenhousemuir in front.

Although Stenhousemuir dominated the first half, The blue toon were always a threat on the counter. They had one chance to capitalise on the break but a great save from Darren Jameson and then a superb goal line clearance from Nicky Jamieson denied O’Keefe.

Towards the end of the half Mikey Anderson picked up the first booking of the match for a professional foul on O’Keefe.

Even though they were now playing into the wind, the Warriors started the second half positively as both Yates and Kirkpatrick were denied in the first 10 minutes of the half.

Peterhead would come into the game and have more territory as they had their turn with the wind behind them having more chances and play in the Warriors half.

The complexion of the game changed with 10 minutes to go when Mikey Anderson picked up a second booking for what seemed to be a nothing foul in the middle of the park.

With the man advantage, Peterhead dominated the closing stages of the match and with the crowd behind them, looked to go and grab a winner but some resolute defending from the Warriors meant that the points were shared and made sure that we head back down the road with a well-earned point and another clean sheet.

The Warriors are back under the lights at Ochilview on Tuesday night where we face an in-form Rangers B side in the SPFL Trust trophy second round.
