Dumbarton vs Stenhousemuir

Match Report

Stenhousemuir make the trip to The Marbill Coaches Stadium on Wednesday evening as they take on Dumbarton in the rescheduled KDM Evolution Trophy fixture, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

This match forms part of the challenging spell of away fixtures for the Warriors, who head into midweek action looking to bounce back from Saturday’s narrow 1–0 defeat to East Fife at Bayview. Despite creating several strong chances—including efforts off the woodwork from Scott McGill and Dale Carrick—the Warriors were undone by an unfortunate own goal in the second-half goal.

Gary Naysmith’s men will now look to quickly reset and return to the impressive form they’ve shown throughout the KDM Evolution Trophy. Stenhousemuir have won all five of their matches in the competition to date, sitting second in the group on goal difference behind Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Their most recent outing in the trophy produced a commanding 4–0 win over Motherwell B at Ochilview, with goals from Gregor Buchanan, Dale Carrick, Matty Aitken and Finlay Gray continuing the Warriors’ dominant run.

A strong result in Dumbarton would give the Warriors the chance to finish in second of the group and regain momentum heading into the knockout stages.

Dumbarton enter Wednesday’s match looking to bounce back to winning ways after a 2-0 defeat to Elgin City. In the KDM Evolution Trophy, the Sons have also advanced after a 1–0 win over Rangers B, courtesy of Kristian Webster’s second-half strike.

The last meeting between the sides saw Stenhousemuir come out on top with a 2–0 win at Ochilview in the Stirlingshire Cup.

Looking ahead to the rescheduled tie, Assistant Manager Brown Ferguson said:

“We want to try and get back on the winning ways and Wednesday is our first opportunity to do that. We’ve obviously secured that top six position. There are a few players who need minutes, and we want to get those in a good, competitive game. We’ve got two tough away fixtures this week, and we’ll prepare ourselves as best as we can for both. Hopefully on Wednesday, we can start off with that.”
