Stenhousemuir Football Club can confirm that Ross Taylor has joined Ayr United Football Club for an undisclosed fee.
Ross arrived at Ochilview in May 2023 from Auchinleck Talbot and leaves the Club having established himself as a fan favourite and one of the most influential players in recent Stenhousemuir history.
His debut came on 15 July 2023, when he made his first appearance for the Warriors as a substitute in a 1-0 Premier Sports Cup victory over St Johnstone.
His first goal for the Club followed on 3 February 2024, scoring the winner in a 1-0 cinch League Two victory over Dumbarton.
Over the course of three seasons at Ochilview, Ross made a total of 109 appearances, scoring 25 goals and providing 16 assists.
During that time, he played a key role in some of the most successful years in the Club’s recent history, helping Stenhousemuir secure the cinch League Two title in 2023/24 before playing a pivotal part in the promotion-winning campaign that saw the Warriors reach the William Hill Championship in 2025/26.
Ross enjoyed the most productive season of his Stenhousemuir career during the 2025/26 campaign, featuring 49 times across all competitions while contributing 18 goals and nine assists.
Having previously registered five goals and four assists during the 2024/25 campaign, Ross more than doubled his attacking output in the 25/26 season, establishing himself as one of the club’s key performers and playing a pivotal role in the success of Gary Naysmith’s side.
His performances throughout that season earned widespread recognition, collecting the Club’s Golden Boot, Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Supporters’ Player of the Year awards.
Chairman Dan Wharton said: “On behalf of everyone at Stenhousemuir Football Club, I want to place on record our sincere gratitude to Ross for his outstanding contribution to this club.
“He made over 100 appearances for the Warriors and proved himself to be one of the most exciting attackers in the division. His pace, creativity and eye for goal made him a constant threat and he caused defenders real problems throughout his time at Ochilview.
“His most recent season was his finest in a Warriors shirt and it was no surprise to see him recognised by fans, his peers and at league level for his performances. He has conducted himself with the utmost professionalism from day one and has been a credit to himself and to this football club.
“We wish him every success as he moves to Ayr United and he will always be warmly welcomed back at Ochilview.”
Director of Football Martin Christie said: “When bringing in Ross in the Summer of 2023, we were convinced that he had the potential to be a vital player for us.
“Having spotted him at Auchinleck Talbot, we were very keen to sign Ross in because of his pace, ability and also the type of person we felt he was and how well he would fit into the dressing room we were building at that point.
“Three seasons later and Ross has been a magnificent player for Stenhousemuir, fully playing his part in our two promotions in three seasons.
“While we are obviously disappointed to see him move on, the chance to allow him to progress to full time football for a club was in all parties interests.
“We wish Ross all the very best for the future and appreciate the enormous part he played on our journey so far.”
Ross Taylor said: “As my time at Stenhousemuir comes to an end, it’s hard to describe my three years at this club.
“Ever since arriving it’s been such a successful period and couldn’t have asked for a better group to do it with.
“Being part of the team to win the first league title for the club was special and to then go and help take the club to the Championship is a special achievement I’ll never forget.
“To reach 100 appearances for the club is also another milestone that I’m incredibly proud of. To win the individual awards that I did last year was also something that meant a lot to me.
“I would like to thank every player and member of staff that helped me and was a part of my journey at the club.
“I would also finally like to thank the fans who supported me from the very first day and glad I could help repay the support with the good memories we made.
“Finally I would like to wish everyone connected at the club all the best in the future.”
Everyone at Stenhousemuir Football Club would like to thank Ross for his outstanding contribution during his time at Ochilview and wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.
