The Warriors picked up our first victory in the cinch league 2 at Bayview as we defeated East Fife 2-0 courtesy of a Gregor Buchanan header on his 400th career appearance and a late goal from Adam Brown.
The Warriors travelled to Methil hoping to bounce back from the agonizing last-minute defeat at Ochilview against Rangers B on Tuesday night. Naysmith made 3 changes as he returned to his former club.
East Fife were first to have a big chance in the match as on the 10-minute mark Connor McManus drove forward into the box and forced Darren Jameson into a good save.
The Warriors had a golden chance to take the lead on 20 minutes as Aitken was played in behind, but Fleming, who was awarded man of the match denied Yates and then Taylor as he made a great double save. Shortly after, Sheppard had a shot that went straight into the hands of Darren Jameson.
Stenhousemuir opened the scoring on 28 minutes as Buchanan’s header found the back of the net from close range after a scramble from a Warriors corner. The East Fife defence were left all over the place and Gregor Buchanan got the last touch to head home marking his 400th career appearance with a goal.
Ross Taylor almost doubled the Warriors lead just before half time as he spotted Flemming off his line and went for the chip, but his effort was just wide.
It took until the hour mark for the second half to get going. O’Reilly had a great run down the left flank but his cross failed to meet a maroon shirt in the box.
The home side should have equalised on the 71st minute as Jack went past his man with ease, but Austin couldn’tsort his feet out and missed the target from close range.
The Warriors could have added to their lead on two occasions, in the 79th minute when O’Reily’s cross met Aitken in the box but he couldn’t steer his header on target. And then again, a couple of minutes later, Aitken had long range effort that went just over the bar.
Jameson was forced into a late save as Walls looping effort looked to be going in, but Jameson’s hand denied him.
The Warriors doubled their lead in added time when the Warriors broke on the counter and substitute Brown was on hand to fired home a ball earning Stenhousemuir their first victory of the season
Naysmith will hope to build on this victory when we return to Ochilview next Saturday where we take on Dumbarton.
