Stenhousemuir are back in action tomorrow as we travel to Coatbridge to take on Albion Rovers in cinch League Two.
The Wee Rovers beat Glasgow University in the Scottish Cup last week, though they required Extra Time to get to a 4-1 win. Their last league match was a 1-1 draw with, then, league leaders Dumbarton. The Warriors also enjoyed Scottish Cup success last week, with a 2-1 victory against League Two rivals, East Fife.
The Warriors have had a good recent history against Albion Rovers with 4 wins from the previous 4 encounters and 7 wins from the last 9 meetings.
The Warriors website caught up with Swifty this week to get his initial thoughts on Saturday’s fixture.
“Unfortunately, we have a few struggling and it’s really going to test our squad this weekend, so hopefully we can go and get a result. But, the boys are in good spirits in terms of losing just 1 game in 8. So we’re on a good run of form, and hopefully we can keep that going on Saturday.”
Switching from Stenhousemuir to Albion Rovers, what does the gaffer expect to see from Saturday’s hosts?
“I think we can expect an improved Albion Rovers team. They’re really good in the wide areas and they’ve tweaked their system slightly this season, but still going with the same philosophy as you can imagine, in terms of being really direct and powerful in getting to second balls and they chase everything down and they’ve got a real danger in Charlie Reilly who we’ll need to watch. They’re another good team in the way that Brian Reid has them set up, and they stick to it and they’re starting to pick up results, so it’ll be a real tough test, especially going through to Coatbridge which we know is a tough place to pick up 3 points.”
Finally, Sean and Nicky both miss out this match. The captain picked up an injury against Annan that has forced him out for a few weeks and Nicky hobbled off with a hamstring injury in the dying moments of last weekend’s victory against East Fife.
“I think it’s really going to test us to the limit. I think any team in the league that ae their 2 main centre backs down will really struggle. But, I feel as if we can still manage to cope without them, I do believe that, but it will test the boys that are coming in. I do believe in the quad though and it will change our approach for the game having those 2 centre backs out.”
Albion Rovers are celebrating their a140 year anniversary with Pie and Bovrils available on the day for just £1.40!
