This Saturday the Warriors are back at Ochilview as we turn our attention to the Scottish Cup as we host Highland League side Huntly for our second round tie.
The Warriors will go into the game full of confidence following last weekend’s victory over Cowdenbeath as they look to secure their passage to the next round of the cup. Standing in their way is a Huntly side who sit 10th in the Highland League despite boasting 7 titles over the years.
The sides have only previously met on one occasion with the Warriors running out 3-1 winners. Hopefully we’ll see more of the same this time round!
MANAGER’S PRE-MATCH COMMENTS
Stephen, last week was arguably the first time that we’ve played well and picked up the 3 points, how are we looking going into this week’s game against Huntly?
We’re a bit more confident, we played well against Forfar and Elgin but, as you say, we also got the result this week, so that’s good for the confidence. I think some of the boys are starting to step up individually and get a bit of form and fingers crossed we can go and build on that.
One major downfall from last week was Thommo’s injury, how’s he looking?
Thommo’s had a few scans done and we’re awaiting Jenna to assess the level of the injury. He’ll obviously definitely be out this weekend, and we’ll have to wait until Jenna can assess him to see how long he’ll be out for.
The big man’s come back and done really well and we missed him in the second half, but as one door closes, another opens and Thomas Orr or Ryan Tierney will have to step up.
We had bounce match on Tuesday night against Linlithgow Rose, Thomas Orr managed to score twice and it looks like he’s got his confidence back with the level of finishes that he produced.
It was one goal and we know what Thomas can do. Unfortunately, and like a few players within the squad, he’s not reached the level that we know he can. We’re confident that he’s the type of player that will keep going and we’re hopefully going to get the form that we know he’s capable of.
This week we’re playing an unfamiliar side in Huntly in the Scottish Cup, how have we prepared for this one and what can we expect from the Highland League Team?
The biggest thing is that we need to match their endeavour and enthusiasm, that’s the first thing. They’re a big physical side and they’re doing OK in their league, sitting mid table. With these types of games, it’s very difficult to pinpoint exactly what they’re all about because you don’t see too much of them. One thing that we need to make sure of is that our attitude is spot on and we can match their enthusiasm and endeavour. If we can do that, and play the way we have in the last few weeks, I’d be hoping for a good result.
With Thommo and Buzz aside, are we back to a full strength side?
Unfortunately no, we have Jordan Tapping, James Lyon and Jon Craig on the sidelines with Declan Hughes suspended.
