Stenhousemuir head into the final day of the William Hill League One season tomorrow knowing the title will be decided over the course of a dramatic afternoon.
Gary Naysmith’s side sit two points behind leaders Inverness Caledonian Thistle, with Caley currently leading the way on 66 points, compared to Stenhousemuir’s 64, while also holding a significant advantage in goal difference.
The situation means the title remains in Inverness’ hands, as a win at home to Hamilton Academical will secure the league title and promotion to the William Hill Championship.
For Stenhousemuir, a win away to Montrose is essential to keep any hopes of lifting the trophy alive. From there, attention will turn to events in Inverness.
Should Inverness lose, Stenhousemuir would move top of the table and be crowned champions. However, if Inverness draw, both sides would finish level on points, with the title then decided on goal difference.
Overturning that gap would require a significant swing, with Inverness currently 14 goals better off. That means a draw for Inverness, alongside a Stenhousemuir win, would still likely favour the Highland side.
In simple terms, Stenhousemuir must win at Links Park and hope for Hamilton Academical to defeat Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the Sarens PSG Stadium.
Adding to the occasion, the SPFL have confirmed that a helicopter will be on standby to deliver the William Hill League One trophy once the final standings are confirmed, with the trophy set to be transported to the eventual champions shortly after full-time.
It marks the first “Helicopter Saturday” in eight seasons, ensuring the 2025/26 William Hill League One campaign will conclude in fittingly dramatic fashion.
