Stenhousemuir have secured the signature of former Partick Thistle midfielder Blair Alston on a two-year deal. The experienced midfielder will add something different to an already impressive midfield at the club.

Alston, who has played 450 senior games in his career, will go straight into the squad for the clubs away fixture at Kelty Hearts this Saturday.

Warriors manager, Gary Naysmith said: “Once I was made aware that Blair could be an option for us to sign, We immediately made contact with him to try and bring him to the club. Blair then took a few days to speak to all of the of clubs that were interested in signing him but on Tuesday this week he let us know that we were the club he wanted to join and by Wednesday we had agreed a deal to bring him to Stenhousemuir for the next two seasons.

Blair, who is still only 32, is an attack minded midfield player who has played over 450 games in his career, scoring around 60 goals with the majority of these games being played in the top two divisions in Scotland. He will add another dimension to our current midfield options and his experience of playing at a higher level will help the group for the season ahead.

Blair will go straight into the squad for the game against Kelty at the weekend. For the first few weeks we will need to manage him carefully as although he has done a pre season, he hasn’t actually played any competitive football since scoring for Partick Thistle in the play offs at the end of last season and therefore will be a little bit behind the rest of the group.

I must give a special thanks to Martin Christie our Head of Football Operations for all his hard work in getting this deal over the line and I look forward to working with Blair for the coming season and beyond.”

Blair Alston will bring his experience and make a vital contribution to the Warriors’ efforts in a league filled with quality and no easy fixtures. Stenhousemuir started their League One campaign with an impressive 2-1 victory over Arbroath at Ochilview last weekend and they will be hoping to continue that momentum against Kelty Hearts when they make the journey to Fife this coming Saturday.
