STENHOUSEMUIR FC BECOME THE FIRST AMBASSADOR CLUB IN SCOTLAND TO PARTNER WITH KITAID

KitAid, the sports development charity which provides kit and equipment across the developing world has recently launched an Ambassador Club scheme to partner with different football clubs from every level of the game.

Stenhousemuir FC has been chosen as the first club in Scotland to launch the scheme as they have been supportive of KitAid for many years. They have provided team kits, held kit collections at matches and promoted the charity via their web site and match programmes.

Derrick Williams MBE, who founded KitAid in 1998 said,

“I have been thinking of setting this scheme up for a while now as it is a good way to recognise the support we receive from many clubs all across the UK. I did think of approaching individual footballers to become Ambassadors, in the same way that people like Madonna or Robbie Williams are ambassadors for the very big charities, but I thought it was better to link with individual clubs and it is a novel idea. Clubs like Stenhousemuir have been fantastic in the support they have given us over the years and this is a nice way of keeping the partnership working.”

Terry Bulloch, Director of Stenhousemuir FC said

“We are very pleased to have been invited to launch the Ambassador Club scheme in Scotland and as a community based club it fits in really well with the way we work. We have supported KitAid for some time now and love to see the pictures of our old kit being used in Africa. We know that our supporters are behind the project as well, as they have donated a lot of shirts at the collection days we have held. I am sure the idea will catch on with a lot of different clubs all across the country.”

Currently we have one venture ongoing between KitAid and Stenhousemuir FC with the assistance of Larbert High School.

The club and the school have been sending Football Kit of varying sizes to Africa via KitAid regularly over the past few years and the ‘Warriors’ are keen to extend this partnership with Larbert High School to help with their plan to sponsor a school in a township in South Africa.

Football, will one of the main themes in this association and KitAid’s expertise and advice will be invaluable to ensure success in the venture.
