Stenhousemuir were held to a 1-1 draw against Inverness Caledonian Thistle in William Hill League One action at the Sarens PSG Stadium.
The Warriors took an early lead through Olly Whyte, who reacted sharply after a failed clearance from the Caley backline, bringing the ball down well before driving into the box and slotting confidently past Ross Munro.
The lead did not last, however, as Alfie Bavidge met a cross into the area and poked beyond Darren Jamieson to ensure the points were shared in the Highlands.
Gary Naysmith made two changes to the starting XI following last week’s 2-2 draw with Montrose at Ochilview, with Zeke Cameron and Kane Ritchie-Hosler coming into the side in place of Matty Aitken and Finlay Gray.
It took Stenhousemuir just six minutes to open the scoring. Olly Whyte latched on to a loose ball after Remi Savage failed to clear his lines properly, with the midfielder advancing into the box and finishing calmly past Munro to make it 1-0.
Inverness looked to respond quickly. Bavidge first received the ball inside the Warriors’ box but fired over the crossbar.
The striker was not to be denied for long, though. On 19 minutes, he met a delivery from out wide and stretched to guide the ball beyond Jamieson to restore parity.
Only two minutes later, the hosts threatened again as Liam Sole struck from distance, but his effort sailed high over the bar.
At the other end, Nicky Jamieson was picked out inside the area by a well-weighted ball into the Caley box, but his attempt drifted just over the target.
Alfie Bavidge looked to grab his second of the afternoon with a headed effort soon after, but it went wide of the Stenny goal as both sides continued to push forward.
Half-Time: Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1-1 Stenhousemuir
Almost five minutes after the restart, Inverness forced Jamieson into action, with Sole’s curling effort from range well dealt with by the Stenhousemuir goalkeeper.
Another long-range strike from the hosts looked destined for the corner, but it drifted narrowly wide of the post.
Substitute Ross Taylor had an opportunity from 25 yards with a free-kick, but he put too much power on the strike as it cleared the bar.
The game then entered a more scrappy spell, with both sides battling for control in midfield and probing for an opening. The tempo lifted again in the closing stages.
Ben Brannan was shown two yellow cards in the space of seven minutes and was dismissed, handing Stenhousemuir a numerical advantage for the remainder of the contest.
Further bookings followed as the Warriors began to press forward, with Inverness sitting deeper and appearing content to protect their point.
Kane Ritchie-Hosler, making his first start for the club, looked to mark the occasion with a goal, but his header from the centre of the box was comfortably gathered by Ross Munro.
Despite late pressure and a strong finish to the match, Stenhousemuir were unable to find a decisive breakthrough.
However, the Warriors will take encouragement from their performance on the road, showing attacking intent early on and resilience throughout, as they continue their push at the top end of the table.

The Warriors hit the road this weekend for a huge top-of-the-table showdown against Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the Sarens PSG Stadium in William Hill League One with a 3pm kick-off.
The stakes could hardly be higher. Inverness currently sit top of the table on 47 points, with Stenhousemuir just five behind on 42, making this one of the most significant fixtures of the season so far.
Gary Naysmith’s side come into the clash following a dramatic 2-2 draw with Montrose at Ochilview Park.
An Andrew Steeves own goal gave the Warriors a first-half lead before Callum Sandilands equalised just after the break.
Finlay Gray restored the advantage with a composed finish. But, Despite Darren Jamieson saving a late penalty, Callum Sandilands struck again on the rebound to ensure the points were shared.
Inverness, meanwhile, arrive in strong form after a 1-0 victory over Hamilton Academical, with Alfie Bavidge’s 37th-minute strike proving decisive.
The Highland side are now unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions, underlining the size of the challenge awaiting Stenhousemuir.
The two sides know each other well this season as Stenhousemuir have faced Inverness three times across all competitions, winning twice and losing once.
The most recent encounter came in the KDM Evolution Trophy Quarter-Final on a midweek Tuesday night, where the only thing separating the sides was an Alfie Bavidge set-piece goal in a tightly contested affair.
Earlier league meetings, however, went the way of the Warriors, proof that Gary Naysmith’s men are more than capable of competing with the division leaders.
With five points separating first and second, Saturday offers the chance to narrow the gap and throw fresh fuel on the title race as the run-in begins to take shape.
