Stenhousemuir Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of former player John Markie.
A calm and dependable central defender, John enjoyed a long and distinguished career in Scottish football.
John began his senior journey with Newcastle United. However he would go on to make his name north of the border with Falkirk where he became a highly respected and consistent presence in defence.
He later had a spell with Clyde before eventually bringing his playing days to a close with the Warriors.
John moved to Stenhousemuir in 1977 for the 1977/78 season, adapting to part time football at Ochilview Park in the Scottish Second Division.
He made 12 league appearances and scored once in maroon, bringing valuable stability to a side that was battling near the foot of the table.
His experience, tactical awareness and leadership from years at a higher level proved invaluable, particularly in supporting and mentoring younger players within the squad.
John is remembered throughout the game as a committed and reliable defender who served his clubs with distinction over many years.
Everyone at Stenhousemuir Football Club sends their sincere condolences to John’s family and friends at this sad time.
