As part of the SPFL’s United We Stand campaign, Stenhousemuir Football Club is proud to highlight the work of the Rainbow Warriors, an inclusive football group that champions diversity, acceptance, and community through the game.
The Rainbow Warriors are an inclusive and supportive football group where everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community and allies are welcome.
Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the sport, the focus is on creating a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for all.
Ritchie Currie-Jenkins, facilitator and member of the group, spoke about the difference the Rainbow Warriors have made in their life, saying: “Rainbow Warriors gives me a reason to keep moving forward. It’s more than just a group of people playing football, it’s a safe space where we come together to challenge negativity and break down the barriers in today’s often judgmental society.
“Before joining Rainbow Warriors, I didn’t have anyone like me to share my experiences with. Now, I’m part of a strong, supportive network that truly has my back. This isn’t just a team. It’s a community.”
Kelly Marie-Wilson, who also plays in the group, echoed those sentiments: “The sessions were initially set up as a safe place for anyone from the LGBTQIA+ community to go and play football, to socialise and to just have fun.
“I was invited along by Ritchie one night as they were a bit low on numbers and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve always been one of Ritchie’s biggest supporters in his journey and the rest of the group have welcomed me in wholeheartedly.
“They are some of the most genuine, kind and funny people I know and it’s a privilege getting to know them and to support them”
Through the work of the Stenhousemuir FC Community Foundation, initiatives like the Rainbow Warriors continue to make football more inclusive and accessible, reinforcing the club’s belief that the game is for everyone, regardless of background, identity, or experience.
Rainbow Warriors sessions take place at Ochilview every Monday, 7–9pm and are open to players aged 16 and over with sessions costing £3 per week.
