A Week is a Long Time . . .

A week is a long time in the fortunes of a Football team and this was very true over the recent matches for The Warriors, with a defeat to Elgin followed by a more than creditable draw at Dumbarton last Tuesday night and then an incredible 5-1 thrashing of the same team on Saturday.

Campbell was in upbeat mood when reflecting on recent performances but things didn’t start off too well at Borough Briggs. “Although I felt we dominated the first half, creating and missing a number of good chances, we lost yet another poor goal defensively with at least 3 chances to clear the ball. In the second half, we never got going, played poorly and lost a really bad goal from a kick out by their keeper.

Bad start at Elgin.

On Tuesday night, I was really pleased with our overall performance and it’s a game that we could have won. We defended really solidly and were lively upfront and with a little luck we could have taken all 3 points from the game. There was a much improved work ethic throughout the team, especially from our middle 3 of Aitken, Sinclair and Tyrell who made it difficult for Dumbarton to play. I thought Andy Thomson’s attitude to the game was first class; he led the line well and communicated effectively with John and Gareth. John has been doing well even when the team has been struggling and his goal was an excellent finish. The only down side was Tommy Sinclair’s injury but fortunately it turned out to be less serious than we first imagined.”

Stenny's Five Card Trick!

Saturday saw The Warriors put in one of their best displays of the season and record their second successive home win of the season against Dumbarton. “I thought we were excellent on Saturday, after going 1 up with a cool finish from Bucket, we then lost a poor goal but showed the strength of character not there in previous matches to bounce back with an excellent finish from the outstanding John Dempster just before half time. In the second half we played some great football and it was pleasing to see all 3 strikers get on the scoresheet with excellent finishes. The scoreline didn’t flatter us at all and we were well worth our convincing victory which will give the whole team a much needed confidence boost- you could see by some of our passing moves in the last 25 minutes that the players were enjoying themselves again.”

Thomson Scores Against Dumbarton

Tonight we face Albion Rovers in a twice postponed match and will start with the same line up as Saturday. JP McBride sits out the second match of his 3 match suspension and Robbie Henderson misses out through flu with Darren Henderson returning to the bench. “Albion gave us a real doing last time at Ochilview and played really well. It will be a difficult 90 minutes but if we play to our potential then it’s a winnable match”
