Last Saturday, the Warriors slumped to their third consecutive
home defeat against 8th placed Montrose in a game which promised so much in the
opening half but left Campbell and the fans bitterly disappointed at yet another
display full of individual defensive errors. “Ironically, I was relatively
pleased with our attacking play, we created loads of chances and scored 2 good
goals, especially the first which I thought was a splendid piece of play with a
fine finish from John Dempster. However that was more than outweighed by our
defensive performance which was poor to say the least, especially from set
pieces, that’s 5 goals conceded in the past 2 games from dead balls. We were
poor defensively throughout the team but the back 4 were particularly at fault
with individual errors, lapses in concentration or whatever costing us dearly.”

Money : "pleased" with attacking play . . .
Campbell was quoted in some of the newspapers as stating that our defensive
displays were “driving me mental” and he was still of the same mind. “If an
individual player continues to make mistakes or performs poorly then it’s a
relatively easy decision to replace him, however in our situation different
players are contributing to our downfall and I’m really frustrated at the lack
of consistency in our defending. All the players have been left in no doubt that
they must improve or I’ll be left with no alternative but to make changes,
however having watched our under 19’s make similar mistakes in our defeat to
Gretna on Sunday, my options at this time are limited.”

But being driven mad by defending! Comments have
been made regarding the lack of substitutions during the game but Campbell
countered “At 3-2 down I felt we were still very much in the game from an
attacking point of view but we lost a further 2 goals in 4 minutes which did not
really give me a great opportunity for change. Looking at the bench I had no
real defensive options other than to potentially throw Gareth on as an auxiliary
centre-half but as I said the game was already lost due to the poor second half
performance. I’ve said to all the players at u-19 and on the fringes of the
first team that there needs to be a challenge for 1st team places to force my
hand but at this stage there’s no-one really knocking at the door. All the
players are well aware that my patience is running very thin and were left in
doubt that our performances must improve”
