Away To Berwick

Saturday sees The Warriors make the trip south to face league leaders Berwick for the 3rd time this season. With honours even so far, Campbell would love a repeat of the result back in August at Shielfield when a solitary John Baird header secured all 3 points. “Berwick are league leaders on merit and are flying high at the moment but Elgin showed a couple of weeks ago that they’re not invincible and can be beaten. I thought we were unlucky to be defeated at Ochilview by the odd goal in 5 just before New Year and we know we have to eliminate the defensive errors that cost us so dearly that day. We know that they’ll pose a threat at set pieces with Gary Wood back to full fitness but Kevin Haynes is suspended so we won’t have his physical presence to contend with. I do believe that every team in this league is beatable and it goes without saying that we need to start winning games if we’re to have any chance of making the play offs and there’s no better place to start than at Berwick on Saturday”

Darren Henderson Should Be Fit

As far as squad news is concerned, Brian McLaughlin again misses out with the hamstring injury incurred against Arbroath but there are encouraging signs on his recovery. Darren Henderson missed Saturday’s friendly defeat to Clydebank Juniors with an ankle injury but should be fit for Saturday. Scott McCulloch has been receiving treatment on his damaged shoulder sustained in the same match and will be given every opportunity to prove his fitness. Robbie Henderson will miss the game with a back strain, whilst Gordon Connelly underwent a double hernia operation earlier today.

The Kids Time Will Come . . .

Campbell confirmed that he will continue with recognised first team players over the coming weeks, resisting calls from some quarters to blood some youngsters. “We’ve made significant changes to the squad/starting XI over recent weeks and they need time to gel. It’s a big challenge to get them on the same wavelength quickly when they only have 2 training sessions per week and part of our thinking was to make the changes in January where we could rather than in the summer to allow as much time as possible to get them working as a unit. I’m confident that I’ve brought good quality players to the club but they’re under no illusions that performances need to improve. Obviously I need to give the new signings time to prove their worth alongside other first team regulars before considering any further changes. Results and performances have not been good enough and I understand the calls for some of the youngsters to get a chance but the play offs must be our first priority, the kids time will come ….eventually”
