Home Defeat to Albion Rovers

Last Saturday’s heavy home loss to the men from Coatbridge left Warriors boss Campbell Money obviously bitterly disappointed not only at dropping 3 points but also at the manner of the defeat. “We didn’t start at all and bitterly disappointed is a big understatement. We didn’t play at all well from start to finish but all credit to Albion Rovers, they passed the ball well and played the game at a high tempo with a great attitude. With this combination, there was only ever going to be one winner and they deservedly took the 3 points”

A recurring theme this season has been the lack of consistent performances and Campbell bemoaned another below par effort from the Warriors. “As I said last week, I thought we had turned the corner against Berwick where the display at times was as good as we’ve had but last Saturday simply wasn’t good enough. We’re effectively back to square one and if we turn in performances of this type then we’ll get deservedly punished. There’s no doubt that there is quality in the squad but they need to show it week in week out if we’re to start winning games.”

Adam Coakley and Darren Henderson made their debuts on Saturday with mixed fortunes in Campbell’s opinion. “Adam seemed to struggle with the pace of the game; I don’t think he expected it be as quick following on from his experience in reserve games. He knows he’ll need to adjust and I’m sure he has the quality to make a positive contribution over the next few weeks. I was pleased with Darren’s overall contribution, he competed well and his use of the ball was relatively good- I appreciate that some people have questioned the signing of a 40 year old but all I would ask is that he’s judged on his performances not his age.”

Home to Elgin

New front pairing for Saturday?

We face Elgin for the 3rd time in the League on Saturday at Ochilview with honours even so far. Campbell knows that we need a vastly improved performance and used a friendly against Cowdenbeath on Tuesday night to try a few different options. “These types of games are a bit false in many ways but we put in a performance more in line with what I expected with 2 goals from Iain Diack and a well worked effort from Ian McSween. It gave me the chance to have a look at John Dempster for the first time in a Warriors jersey and I thought he did really well; he took a bit of a knock but if fit, he’ll start on Saturday up front with Iain Diack.”

David Murie is suspended with Gordon Connelly still absent through injury.

Transfer Window News

Campbell’s phone has been red hot all week both making and taking calls but no further arrivals or departures have been made to date but Campbell did make the following points “No players will be leaving until I’m sure that I’ve got suitable replacements lined up. Since Brian and I arrived, a total of 5 players have left the club and the short term signings from Motherwell were aimed at both adding quality to the squad in the short term but also at ensuring that we had a strong enough pool to see us through January as necessary.”

Obviously we’ll keep you informed on any further signings via the Official Site.
