To support the progress and enhance the physical development of all the players in the Performance 11s and 12s teams, the Children's Academy at Stenhousemuir FC has appointed a new Head of Sport Science who specialises in assisting young players aged 5-12 years.
As a result, it is now compulsory that all players involved at Performance 11s and 12s level attend a fitness testing session 3 times per season which is tailored to assess four key components of fitness (strength/ power, speed, stamina/endurance and agility) as well as a key aspect of sporting performance (speed combined with technique).
The Academy firmly believes that through the systematic process of consistent fitness testing and the incorporation of sports science within a football specific environment will offer 3 core benefits to each individual player - identify strengths and weaknesses; monitor progress/development; provide incentives and targets to improve.
