Home Win Over Elgin City

Although nearly 2 weeks ago, Campbell reflected on the victory over Elgin with mixed emotions earlier this week. “I felt it was a very strange game; we played better against the wind but fell 2 goals behind in the first half but managed to win the game in the second half with what I thought was an inferior display but at the end of the day I was absolutely delighted to collect all 3 points, especially given the conditions.”

Campbell was full of praise for match winner John Paul McBride and the quality of the match winning goal. “The strike was out the top drawer and was worthy of winning any match. There are very few players in our Division or indeed Scottish Football with the vision and ability of JP in that type of situation.”

Debutant John Dempster also made a dream start with a brace and the boss was equally pleased with his contribution. “ Obviously I’ve known John for quite a while and know what he’ll give you week in, week out. I was really pleased with his performance, he led the line and linked up well with his goals being an added bonus. Fans can expect the same energy and work rate in every game, whether he’ll be able to play at the level he displayed against Elgin remains to be seen but I’m confident he’ll be a success at Ochilview.”

Friendly Win Over Forfar

John Dempster Scores On His Debut

Tuesday of this week saw us record a 2-0 victory over the Second Division outfit with goals from John Dempster and Brian McLaughlin. “I was pleased with some aspects of the performance- we had a new back 4 playing together for the first time (Craig McEwan, Mark Cowan, Scott McCulloch and Darren Henderson) and they did OK. Overall, we started brightly and looked quite sharp, creating a few chances but for some reason we took our foot of the pedal which disappointed me. We made a significant number of changes in the game to give as many players a run out as possible and in the final analysis, I felt we fully deserved our victory”

Queens Park On Saturday

Our next home match sees us play The Spiders at Ochilview. With a free Saturday last week, both Campbell and Assistant Manager Brian Hamilton travelled to Hampden to take in Queens’ emphatic victory over managerless Montrose. “ They played really well and fully deserved the margin of their victory. In the end it was a comfortable win and they’ll travel full of confidence for the match. We know it will be a tough match as the record books show between us and I ‘m sure that it’ll be a keenly fought contest”

On the selection front, new signings Scott McCulloch and Craig McEwan are added to the squad. Gareth Hutchison has recovered from the calf injury, which saw him miss the Elgin game, but has been suffering from flu and may miss out again.

Fans Forum

Last Monday saw the Campbell meet fans to discuss all things Warriors. “ It was a very worthwhile and enjoyable evening. The questions were all relevant and understandable in the current circumstances and I gave honest, straightforward answers – some fans may not agree with my views but at least they know where I stand on the various issues. We’re all in this together, and all I’d ask is that that the supporters give the team their full backing every week, players respond to encouragement not criticism whilst on the field and their support is much appreciated. If there’s any gripes, aim them at me and I’ll be happy to discuss the issues in the Wee Bar or at future meetings or via the weekly website update”

New Signings

As reported earlier, Scott McCulloch and Craig McEwan both signed 18-month deals earlier this week and Campbell is obviously delighted with the new arrivals. “Both have a good pedigree and a wealth of experience in Scottish Football. “Boab” is left sided, good in the air and a good talker/organiser whilst Craig is a former Scotland U-21 International who’s comfortable on the ball and likes to get forward when the opportunity allows. I’m sure that both players will prove to be assets over the coming months”

In other news, teenage goalkeeper Scott Johnstone has agreed professional terms until the end of the season as back up to Willie McCulloch.

As reported on the main site, Iain Diack has left the club to join Berwick Rangers. Campbell added, “ Berwick approached me regarding Iain’s availability, were able to offer an 18 month deal which was something I couldn’t match at this time and as a result we agreed a nominal fee to conclude the transfer.”
